A woman who claims she was kicked out of a store for wearing shorts that were deemed too short has responded to the criticism, asserting that she was being bullied for being “too attractive.”
While it’s usually best to keep opinions about others’ clothing to yourself, many establishments have specific guidelines on what is and isn’t considered appropriate attire.
Now, one woman’s ultra-short shorts have sparked an online debate. She believes she was targeted because of her looks, but others on social media have offered a different perspective on the situation.
Kerolay Chaves, from Brazil, took to Instagram to express her frustration about being censored for her revealing outfit.
“I just got home from the supermarket and was harassed for wearing ‘too short clothes,'” she wrote on Instagram, translated from Portuguese to English.
“Some people gave me judgmental looks, others cursed me, and in the end, I was kicked out of the store.”
“Can you believe it? I think it’s ridiculous that women are still treated this way just because we wear what we want. The truth is, we go through this because we’re ‘too hot,'” she added.
Chaves also shared a photo of the outfit she believes caused all the trouble – a pair of denim shorts that were cut very short, resembling underwear.
However, despite her defense, most people sided with the store staff and criticized her revealing outfit.
“No need to go to a supermarket dressed like that,” one critic wrote, adding, “You’re embarrassing the decent people who are often there with children.”
Another joked, “I guess it’s the same way a shirtless man would get kicked out – that happened to you.”
Additionally, some people weren’t convinced by her story.
One person wrote, “Clearly, this was for engagement and Instagram likes. She never went to the supermarket dressed like this. Those who follow the stories know. I’m sorry, but this can’t help you.”
Another added, “Stop using serious topics for engagement. It’s not prejudice, you’re just clueless.”
Someone else pointed out, “She even had time to take a picture before being kicked out…”
A more observant commenter said, “There’s a piece of clothing in the cart… I don’t think she went into the market like that. Maybe she covered the bottom part and took it just to snap those pictures. I don’t think she got kicked out of anything. It looks like she chose an empty spot, took the photos, and posted them with this controversial caption just to get more engagement.”
