Russia’s mysterious station, “The Buzzer,” activated again, broadcasting a cryptic message amid growing speculation about its true purpose.
Russia’s eerie “doomsday radio station,” known as UVB-76 or “The Buzzer,” broadcast strange coded messages for the second time this year.
The transmission happened as Vladimir Putin spoke with U.S. President Donald Trump on May 19.
Despite past tension—Trump recently warned Putin not to “tap me along” over Ukraine—the two leaders have remained in contact.
The timing of the Buzzer’s activity during their “excellent” phone call has reignited speculation about the station’s true purpose.
Despite past tensions, Putin and Trump remain in contact—even as Russia’s eerie Cold War-era radio station, UVB-76, springs back to life.
Also called “Dead Hand Radio” or “Judgement Day Radio,” its true purpose is still unknown.
Metro reports this marks the second time the station has activated during calls between world leaders this year.
Before the May 19 White House call, it broadcast the code:
“NZhTI 89905 BLEFOPUF 4097 5573.”
Hours later, it sent another:
“NZhTI 01263 BOLTANKA 4430 9529.”
These cryptic messages differ from the usual constant buzzing the station emits year-round.
Speculation suggests military use, with some believing it links to the Kremlin’s nuclear systems.
After the call, Trump said Russia and Ukraine would “immediately start negotiations toward a ceasefire.”
Putin agreed, saying both sides must show a “desire for peace” and “find compromises.”
He also thanked Trump for U.S. support during talks, according to local media.
Meanwhile, controversial footage emerged showing Russia allegedly using a North Korean gun in the war zone.
Earlier, Trump also spoke with Ukraine’s President Zelenskyy before Pope Francis’ funeral.
Despite tensions earlier this year, the two leaders seem to have made strong progress.
Zelenskyy said after their meeting:
“We protect the lives of our people. We want a full and unconditional ceasefire.
We seek reliable, lasting peace to prevent another war.”
He called the meeting “very symbolic” and said it could become historic if they achieve joint results.
Trump posted on Truth Social about the meeting.
He criticized Putin’s recent missile attacks on Kyiv’s civilians, cities, and towns.
Trump said,
“Maybe Putin doesn’t want to stop the war. He’s just tapping me along.”
He added Putin “has to be dealt with differently, through banking or secondary sanctions.”
Trump concluded, “Too many people are dying!”
