White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt dismissed CNN’s Kaitlan Collins amid questions about the Signal texts scandal.
Defending Trump officials’ use of Signal for military discussions, Leavitt shut down the journalist with a sharp seven-word response when pressed on the leaked messages.
Collins attempted to press further, but Leavitt swiftly cut her off, stating, “Kaitlan, I’m not taking your follow-up.”
When the journalist persisted with another question, Leavitt shut her down again, firmly repeating the same line before shifting her attention to Philip Wegman of RealClearPolitics.
Leavitt asserted that Trump had reviewed the leaked text messages, which were later published by The Atlantic after editor-in-chief Jeffrey Goldberg was accidentally included in the conversation.
Dismissing The Atlantic‘s coverage as “sensational spin,” she accused Goldberg of being an “anti-Trump sensationalist reporter.”
She added, **”Goldberg is an anti-Trump hater.
“He is a registered Democrat. His wife is also a registered Democrat and a major donor who previously worked under Hillary Clinton.”**
She ultimately ended the briefing after 22 minutes, citing the need to avoid overlapping with Vice President J.D. Vance’s speech at a military base.
The text leak scandal centers on a Signal chat in which Trump officials discussed a potential military strike against Houthi rebels in Yemen.
Jeffrey Goldberg, editor-in-chief of The Atlantic, was mistakenly included in the conversation and later exposed the messages, publishing the full exchange on Wednesday.
This came after officials downplayed the situation, insisting that no classified information had been shared.
The Signal group, which included top Trump officials, discussed the Yemen military operation, with Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth disclosing strike details and announcing the mission more than an hour before it commenced.
The leak of these operational details has sparked concerns among military veterans and active-duty personnel, who often face severe repercussions for even minor security breaches—commonly referred to as “spillage” in military terms.
