Travis Kelce has raised concerns that his relationship with Taylor Swift might be over, as he reportedly blames the singer for his recent decline in performance.
The Kansas City Chiefs star feels the media attention surrounding his romance with Swift became a major distraction, contributing to his team’s disappointing Super Bowl loss to the Philadelphia Eagles last season.
Kelce shocked Swifties this week after reports of his frustrations surfaced, and his comments are likely to stir even more backlash from her dedicated fans as he focuses on his upcoming season.
The 35-year-old, who is expected to retire after this campaign, is fully committed to securing a fourth and final Super Bowl victory, and he’s ready to put his relationship with Swift on the backburner in order to focus on ending his career on a high note.
A source told The Daily Mail: “Travis is all in for this season, and the only thing that could hold him back is an injury.
“Losing the Super Bowl was a major setback, as he wants to prove he can have it all and manage both personal and professional success.”
Regarding Swift’s role in all of this, the insider shared: “(She and Kelce) don’t need to be in the spotlight anymore and will likely be seen less frequently in public compared to before.”
It’s understood that Swift, 35, is fully supportive of this shift.
The source continued: “Their relationship is going strong, and his other ventures outside of football are thriving.
“However, his performance on the field needs to improve, especially with this being his final contracted season and with retirement looking likely after this year.
“He’s determined to be the driving force behind the Chiefs’ return to the Super Bowl and a potential victory. If this is his final season, he wants to give it his all, and Taylor is completely supportive of that.”
Following the Chiefs’ heavy defeat to the Eagles in Super Bowl LVIII in New Orleans, many fans were quick to point out that Kelce and Swift, who began dating in 2023, had shared a pre-game dinner just two days before the big game. They were joined by Kelce’s teammate, Patrick Mahomes, and his wife, Brittany, at the trendy French restaurant Lilette.
After the Chiefs’ loss, the dinner was criticized as an unnecessary distraction.
It’s possible that some of the backlash has influenced Kelce’s decision to adjust his focus moving forward.
The source continued: “Travis’s extracurricular activities and relationship with Taylor did take up a lot of his time last season, but he refuses to place blame on her or anything else. It was simply a bad day at the office during the Super Bowl.
“Had they won, the conversation would be completely different about his life and everything going on.
“He’s determined to keep his focus, improve his performance, train harder, and avoid any distractions or drama that could interfere with his goals.”
