President Donald Trump faced backlash after an image of his interaction with children at the White House Easter Egg Roll went viral.
The incident happened on April 21, when the 78-year-old mingled with families on the South Lawn during the Easter egg hunt.
But it wasn’t the Easter Bunny or candy that caught people’s attention — it was what Trump held in his hand.
A widely shared photo showed the former president gripping a trading card.
The card depicted him moments after the failed assassination attempt on July 13, 2024.
During that rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks opened fire.
Bullets narrowly missed Trump at the podium.
One attendee, former fire chief Corey Comperatore, died from a stray bullet.
Trump, who later won re-election, came within milliseconds of death.
One bullet grazed his ear — a moment now shown on the card he displayed to children.
A Getty Images caption read:
“U.S. President Donald Trump holds a collector’s card depicting the assassination attempt during the Easter Egg Roll on April 21, 2025.”
Corey Comperatore, a father of two and volunteer fire chief, died in the attack.
Two others were critically injured.
The graphic card and the memory it evoked sparked intense backlash online.
Reddit users quickly slammed Trump’s choice to show an assassination attempt trading card at a kids’ Easter event.
One user mocked, “Forget chocolate and bunnies — let’s talk about the time someone tried to shoot me dead.”
They added, “As a father and grandfather, you’d think he’d know what’s child-friendly.”
Another quipped, “Isn’t this what Easter is about? Assassination attempt trading cards?”
A third joked, “I like Cadbury Cream Eggs, but bloody-face trading cards rank around 37th for Easter joy.”
One comment stood out:
“‘Hey kids, here’s a photo of me bleeding from the ear! Two people died, including the shooter. Happy Easter!’
Totally normal thing to show elementary schoolers.”
The same post ended:
“Out of everything he could say or do — he picks, ‘Here’s a fake baseball card of my bloody face.’ Cool, huh?”
Another simply wrote, “He’s so… strange.”
Yes, the card is real. It’s even for sale on Amazon.
The front shows Trump with a bloodied ear and raised hand.
The back details the shooting.
The title reads: “FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT!”
The description says:
“On July 13, 2024, a tragic event shook the nation.
An attempt was made on former President Donald Trump’s life at a rally in Butler, PA.”
It praises emergency responders and citizens who “rallied to uphold democracy and justice.”
The card calls the moment a symbol of national resilience.
It urges Americans to remember the bravery shown and to work toward a future free from violence.
Despite the backlash, Trump stayed unfazed during the Easter event.
The gathering included a military card writing station, a Meta-sponsored “AI-Powered Experience and Photo Opportunity,” and a Reading Nook by Amazon.
Thousands were expected to attend.
Trump addressed the crowd, saying,
“We’re going to honor Jesus Christ very powerfully throughout our lives — not just now.”
He added, “We’re bringing religion back in America — we’re bringing a lot of things back.”
First Lady Melania Trump joined him, along with Trump family members and officials like Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.
His appearance came after a bombshell New York Times report claimed he used the Signal app to share sensitive military details.
The Pentagon has denied the allegation.
