Some people are just now realizing that 2XL and XXL are different sizes.
If you’ve ever bought clothes in your size.
And they didn’t fit right, this might explain why.
TikTok creator @itsmakaylasmith shared a video showing the difference between XXL and 2XL.
The two sizes are actually completely different.
In her caption, she wrote:
“Should I make a video explaining the difference between XXL and 2XL??”
2XL and XXL aren’t the same—they’re cut very differently.
XXL is slightly larger than XL in all measurements.
2XL is much roomier but not longer than XL.
Plus-size fashion TikToker @itsmakaylasmith showed this by wearing the same top in both sizes.
The XXL fits more uniformly.
The 2XL offers more room, especially in the arms and abdomen.
Many people were stunned by the TikToker’s insight
And shared their reactions in the comments.
One user wrote, “Eye opener! I didn’t know!”
Another said, “I [learned] something new today.”
A third added, “WHOAAAAAA This makes so much sense.”
A fourth commented, “Noted for when I’m next buying for other people.
Clothes never seem like a safe gift, but knowing this may change that!”
If you like a snug fit, go with XXL.
If you want more comfort, choose 2XL.
Sizing gets confusing because it changes.
Depending on whether you’re wearing a skirt, jeans, t-shirt, sweater, or dress.
Dr. Simeon Gill, a Fashion Technology Lecturer at the University of Manchester, told the BBC that sizing needs improvement.
“To improve sizing, we must recognize population variability,” Gill said.
That means adding more sizes or changing how we provide clothing entirely.
He believes sizing should be based directly on the wearer’s body measurements.
“There’s no good reason women’s jeans shouldn’t be sized like men’s—with waist and leg length,” he added.
Current sizing sticks to outdated practices and fears of change or lost sales.
