A small town in Brazil has been left reeling after a teenager’s sudden illness took a tragic turn, sparking an urgent investigation by authorities and medical experts.
Davi Nunes Moreira, a 14-year-old from Planalto, was rushed to the hospital after experiencing severe pain and persistent vomiting.
Initially, Davi told his father that he had sustained a sports-related injury. However, as his condition quickly worsened, doctors suspected there was something far more serious at play.
Even after being transferred to a specialized facility in Vitoria da Conquista, Davi’s health continued to decline at an alarming rate.
He reportedly began limping, his condition worsening, until he finally revealed the shocking truth behind his illness.
According to reports, Davi admitted to doctors that he had mixed the remains of a dead butterfly with water and injected the concoction into his leg.
Investigators suspect that Davi may have been influenced by a dangerous online trend, although he reportedly denied participating in any specific challenge before his death.
Adding to the mystery, his father later found the syringe hidden beneath Davi’s pillow.
Medical experts raised several alarming possibilities, including a fatal embolism, a severe allergic reaction, or a dangerous infection, potentially triggered by foreign fragments or air introduced during the injection.
“We don’t know how he prepared this mixture… there may have been air inside, which could cause an embolism,” Dr. Luiz Fernando D. Relvas told VivaBem.
Marcelo Duarte, a zoology professor at São Paulo University, noted that butterfly fluids are poorly understood and could be toxic to humans.
Authorities are now awaiting autopsy results to confirm the exact cause of death — while police continue to investigate a chilling possibility.
