Melanie Hamrick, Mick Jagger’s longtime partner, confirmed in a new interview with Paris Match that they’ve actually been secretly engaged for years.
The 37-year-old former ballerina shared that the rock legend proposed “two or three years” ago. Still, she said they’re not in a hurry to get married.
“Maybe one day we’ll marry, maybe not. We’re so happy with how things are now that I’d be afraid to change anything,” she told the magazine.
Mick Jagger, 81, and Melanie Hamrick have been together since 2014 after meeting in Japan. He was touring with the Rolling Stones, and she was performing with the American Ballet Theatre.
Two years later, they welcomed their son, Deveraux — Jagger’s eighth child.
In a 2019 interview with The New York Times, Hamrick gave a peek into life with their son, saying he “dances a ton.”
“I haven’t put him in classes yet. He plays the ukulele and makes up songs. He’s definitely got the gene. I’d love for him to try tap — making noise with his feet? He’d love that. He enjoys music classes,” she said.
Though there’s a 44-year age gap between her and Jagger, Hamrick says it doesn’t bother her.
“Everyone has their opinion. If you focus on that, no matter where you are in life, you’ll end up overthinking everything,” she told The Times in September 2024.
The engagement news comes after months of speculation, which started in 2023 when Melanie Hamrick was seen wearing a sparkling diamond on her ring finger. At the time, she playfully addressed the rumors in an interview with PEOPLE.
“I have to giggle. Did Mick give me the ring? Yes. Is it on that finger? Yes,” she said. “But are we acting like love-struck teenagers? In my mind, it’s a promise ring. Let’s just be immature and call it that.”
This would be Mick Jagger’s second engagement but only his first confirmed marriage was to Bianca Jagger, whom he wed in 1971 and divorced in 1978. They have one daughter together, Jade Jagger, now 53.
Over the years, the rock legend has had relationships with several well-known women, including Marianne Faithfull, Jerry Hall, and the late L’Wren Scott.
In addition to his youngest, Deveraux, and daughter Jade, Jagger is also father to Karis (54), Elizabeth (41), James (39), Georgia May (33), Gabriel (27), and Lucas (25).
