Michelle Obama’s brother, Craig Robinson, once predicted her marriage to Barack wouldn’t survive. Now, rumors suggest the couple may be heading for a divorce, with discussions over splitting millions of dollars.
In the latest episode of their podcast IMO, Michelle Obama and her brother Craig Robinson chatted about dating. Michelle shared, “I love talking about it because I haven’t dated in decades.”
Michelle and Barack married in 1992 and are still together. However, Robinson wasn’t optimistic at first. He recalled, “When you started dating Barack, we didn’t know who he was. I thought it’d last about a month like most of your relationships.”
Michelle quickly corrected him, saying, “That’s not true. I’ve had many long-term boyfriends.”
Robinson shot back, “I wouldn’t call those guys boyfriends.”
He continued recalling the moment, “We were on the front porch waiting for Michelle to bring Barack. When she got out of the car, Mom’s first comment was, ‘At least he’s tall.’”
He added, “I thought, ‘Well, too bad it won’t last.’ But after a while, Michelle asked me, ‘Would you mind taking him to play basketball?’”
Robinson shared that after their basketball outing, he saw Barack as a “team player” who easily fit in with the family. He reported back to Michelle, “Everything was fine. And the rest is history.”
But now, that history may be changing. Rumors about their marriage being in trouble are growing, with reports suggesting the couple is in therapy, trying to make things work.
A Hollywood insider, Rob Shuter, shared: “They love each other deeply, but marriage requires effort. They’re committed to putting in that work—still.”
The insider also noted the couple’s differing dynamics: “Barack has always been comfortable with distance, while Michelle values presence. That hasn’t changed over the years.”
Another source revealed that Barack, 63, and Michelle, 61, are now discussing how to split their wealth and the $70 million in assets they share.
“They want to settle everything beforehand. The last thing they want is a messy legal battle,” the source added.
Recently, Michelle addressed the absence from events like Jimmy Carter’s funeral and Donald Trump’s inauguration, explaining that she was vacationing in Hawaii at the time.
During an appearance on Sophia Bush’s iHeart Radio podcast Work in Progress, Michelle shared how she used to struggle with saying “no” to invitations, fearing she might disappoint others.
Michelle reflected on how people couldn’t fathom her making decisions for herself, saying, “They had to assume my husband and I are divorcing.”
She explained, “When a grown woman makes decisions for herself, society labels it negatively if it doesn’t fit their stereotypes.”
Despite the chatter, Barack showed his love this past Valentine’s Day, praising Michelle for still being able to “take my breath away” after 31 years of marriage.
