David Hekili Kenui Bell, known for his role in Disney’s live-action Lilo & Stitch, has sadly passed away just weeks after the film’s release.
According to TMZ, 46-year-old actor David Hekili Kenui Bell died on June 12.
The cause of death remains unknown.
“We’ve launched a coroner’s inquest, and an autopsy is being scheduled,” a police spokesperson told PEOPLE.
The investigation is ongoing, but no foul play is suspected.
David Hekili Kenui Bell’s sister, Jalene Kanani, confirmed his passing in a heartfelt Facebook post.
She called him her “sweet, generous, talented, funny, brilliant, and handsome” brother.
“I’ve waited for the words to express the joy of who he was,” she wrote.
A Father’s Day newsletter honoring men in their lives prompted her to speak.
Jalene reflected on David’s passion for acting, voiceovers, his dog Brutus, and his role as a Kona Brew ambassador.
“He loved the arts and the excitement of the film industry,” she shared.
She praised his unique heritage and talent, noting how his blend of English, Indigenous knowledge, and Pidgin made him shine.
“He was a diamond in the rough,” she said.
She also recalled watching Lilo & Stitch as a family on opening night.
They were moved by fans in full L&S gear and the excitement around the film.
Jalene ended her tribute with a reminder to cherish loved ones.
“Our last time together was just sitting, talking story, having a seltzer, and doing genealogy,” she said.
“Blessed by these moments, I’ll keep our memories alive.”
In addition to Lilo & Stitch, David Hekili Kenui Bell appeared in Magnum P.I. and Hawaii Five-O, according to IMDb.
He was also set to appear in The Wrecking Crew, a film currently in post-production.
The live-action Lilo & Stitch has officially dethroned Top Gun: Maverick as the biggest Memorial Day weekend release in U.S. history.
According to Variety, the nostalgic reboot earned a massive $341 million globally.
It now holds the second-highest opening of 2025, just behind A Minecraft Movie.
