Joe Biden has reportedly been given just five years to live after doctors discovered aggressive prostate cancer had spread throughout his body.
Now, Democrats are facing backlash, with some accusing them of trying to cover up the illness.
The former president is said to be weighing treatment options with his wife Jill, 73, and their family by his side.
The cancer has already spread to Joe Biden’s bones, making the outlook bleak for the 82-year-old.
Doctors use the Gleason score to grade prostate cancer, with 10 being the most aggressive. Biden scored a 9—a clear sign the disease is advanced and fast-growing.
Dr. Ryan Cleary, a urologist at MedStar Health, weighed in: “Roughly a third of patients with metastatic prostate cancer survive past five years.”
Late-stage prostate cancer often shortens life expectancy and brings on painful symptoms that can severely impact daily life.
Some top U.S. doctors are shocked that Biden’s aggressive prostate cancer wasn’t caught earlier. Routine blood tests, recommended for men over 50, usually detect it in time.
Dr. Howie Forman of Yale said, “It’s inconceivable this wasn’t monitored before he left office.” He added the prostate-specific antigen test would have revealed cancer “long before this diagnosis.”
This late-stage diagnosis has fueled accusations that Biden’s team kept his illness secret while he was president.
Donald Trump Jr. and others have revived claims that Biden hid a terminal illness.
Far-right activist Laura Loomer’s July 2024 claims about Biden’s health are being echoed again.
Pro-MAGA supporters also share Biden’s 2022 statement where he admitted to having cancer—a remark aides then said was misunderstood.
After Biden’s cancer diagnosis, many political figures are calling to dial down debates about his mental sharpness during his final days in office.
David Axelrod, former Obama aide and frequent Biden critic, said talk about Biden’s mental state “should be more muted and set aside for now as he’s struggling through this.”
Biden’s office dropped the bombshell statement Sunday, revealing his cancer fight.
It said: “While this is an aggressive form, the cancer is hormone-sensitive, allowing effective management. The president and his family are reviewing treatment options with his doctors.”
Concerns about Biden’s health have loomed large throughout his presidency and stayed on voters’ minds.
After a rocky debate performance in June during his re-election run, Biden stepped aside. Kamala Harris, then Vice President, took his place against Republican Donald Trump. Despite the health scare, Biden has brushed off concerns about his age.
The controversy over his health grew after the book Original Sin by Jake Tapper and Alex Thompson claimed aides hid the full extent of his decline while in office.
In February 2024, Dr. Kevin O’Connor, speaking for the White House Medical Unit, wrote: “(Biden) continues to be fit for duty and fully executes all responsibilities without exemptions or accommodations.”
Earlier, in February 2023, Biden had a basal cell carcinoma—common skin cancer—removed from his chest.
Back in November 2021, doctors removed a benign but potentially precancerous lesion from his colon.
