Jessica Aber, a former U.S. Attorney, has been found deceased at the age of 43.
Police in Alexandria, Virginia, responded to a report of an “unresponsive woman” at the 900 block of Beverley Drive around 9 AM on Saturday, March 22. Upon arrival, they found the woman deceased.
“Following notification of family members, the Alexandria Police Department can confirm the identity of the woman as Ms. Jessica Aber, age 43, former U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia,” read the official police statement.
An investigation is ongoing, and the Virginia Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of death.
The late woman, nominated by President Joe Biden, served as U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia (EDVA) from 2021 to 2025.
She stepped down from her position shortly before Donald Trump was sworn in as the 47th President of the United States earlier this year.
According to the Department of Justice website, Aber led a staff of approximately 300 prosecutors, civil litigators, and support personnel across four divisions in Alexandria, Richmond, Norfolk, and Newport News, serving over six million residents throughout the district.
News of Aber’s death has prompted emotional responses from those who knew her professionally.
Current EDVA U.S. Attorney Erik S. Siebert expressed his deep sorrow, saying the office is “heartbroken beyond words.” He praised Aber as a “leader, mentor, and prosecutor” whose abilities were “unmatched,” adding that she was “simply irreplaceable as a human being.”
“We remain in awe of how much she accomplished in her all too brief time in this world. Her professionalism, grace, and legal acumen set the standard. Though we are devastated by this loss, each of us in the Eastern District of Virginia will look to her example and endeavor to live up to that standard,” Siebert shared.
“Jess was a proud Virginian from high school through college and throughout her career. She loved EDVA, and EDVA loved her back. We remain committed to her life’s work, a commitment to seeking justice, as she would have wanted,” he added.
Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares also paid tribute to Aber on X (formerly Twitter), acknowledging her contributions to public safety.
“I am saddened to learn of the passing of Jessica Aber, whose career of public service included US Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia and whose work with Ceasefire Virginia saved more lives than we may ever realize,” he wrote. “Our thoughts and our prayers are with her family this week.”
Attorney General Pamela Bondi remarked, “The loss of Jessica Aber, former U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, is deeply tragic. Our hearts and prayers go out to her family and friends during this profoundly difficult time.”
Our thoughts are with Aber’s loved ones during this difficult time.
