Social media users are having a blast after Donald Trump stated that his son Barron has an “incredible aptitude for technology” simply for being able to turn on a laptop.
The 78-year-old president recently sat down for an interview with Fox News host Laura Ingraham, where he discussed everything from his sleep habits to high-stakes talks with China.
During the extensive conversation, Trump took a moment to praise his children, saying, “If you look at my kids, all of my kids, they’ve been very good, they’ve been very smart.” He highlighted their attendance at prestigious schools and their hard work, adding, “They love our country and they’re proud of their father.”
Trump then proudly spoke about his youngest son, who turned 19 on Thursday (March 20), claiming he has “an unbelievable aptitude for technology.” He shared a story that left viewers puzzled:
“He can look at a computer… I turn off his laptop, I say, ‘Oh good,’ and I go back about five minutes later, he’s got his laptop, I say, ‘How do you do that?’ He’s got an unbelievable aptitude in technology,” Trump said.
The moment quickly went viral, with critics pointing out that restarting a laptop is hardly a remarkable feat—especially for someone of college age.
“BREAKING: In a bizarre moment, the President of the United States expresses astonishment that his college-age son can turn a laptop on after he turned it off, wondering ‘How’d you do that?’ This is abnormal. A weekly cognitive test should be mandatory,” one user commented.
Another user posted: “Stop the press. Trump’s son can turn on a laptop!!!!” while a third sarcastically said: “Donald Trump admitting that he knows absolutely NOTHING about computers, technology, or young people. Beyond embarrassing.”
“His aptitude is determined by turning on and off a laptop? Lmao gt**h,” added another person.
While many mocked the strange tech boast, a few people were more willing to go along with the joke. “Before you make fun of Barron Trump, try turning a laptop back on that’s been turned off, okay? It’s not so easy,” one person humorously wrote.
This isn’t the first time Trump has praised Barron, as he previously credited his son with influencing the 2024 campaign trail.
Trump claimed Barron played a role in helping him secure younger voters by encouraging appearances on podcasts like those hosted by Joe Rogan and Theo Von.
“He knew the youth vote. You know we won the youth vote by 36 points, and he was saying, ‘Dad, you gotta go out and do this one or that one,’ and we did a lot of them, and he respects them all, he understood them very well,” Trump explained.
Melania Trump also offered her own praise, emphasizing their son’s political instincts: “He’s a grown young man. I’m very proud of him—about his knowledge, even about politics, and giving advice to his father. He brought in so many young people.”
“He knows his generation, because nowadays the young generation, they don’t sit in front of TV anymore. They’re all on the tablets, they’re on the phones, and all of these podcasts and streamers,” she added.
“He was very vocal, and he gave advice to his father, and it was incredible how he brought in success because he knew exactly who his father needed to contact and talk to,” she concluded.
