A doctor injected Botox into only one side of her face, leaving viewers shocked by the dramatic difference in appearance.
Dr. Bita Farrell, a board-certified physician with 20+ years of experience, turned herself into a “lab rat” to educate viewers.
Instead of a standard full-face treatment, she injected Botox only into the right side of her face to demonstrate its true effects.
She filmed the results for Instagram, where she has over 101,000 followers.
Two weeks earlier, she had injected Botox into her right-side lower face muscles, including the DAO and platysma.
“These muscles affect expressions and mouth movement,” she explained.
In the viral video, she tried to contract both sides of her face — and the difference was dramatic.
On camera, her untreated left side looked far more expressive, with facial muscles visibly pulling down the mouth and jawline.
Her right side — the one with Botox — barely moved, despite her effort.
“You can see the platysma pulling this side [left] of my jawline down,” she said. “Same with the DAO at the mouth corner.”
Then she motioned to the right side: “I’m really trying to pull this side!”
She also noted subtle differences: her treated cheek sat slightly higher, her nasolabial fold looked softer, and her marionette line cast less shadow.
In her caption, she explained the science:
Facial muscles either pull up or down. Botox relaxes the downward-pulling muscles (DAO, platysma), letting upward-pulling ones (like the zygomaticus) take over.
This can reduce marionette lines, jowls, frown lines, and nasolabial folds. It can also lift the neck, sharpen the jawline, and give cheeks a fuller look.
She said results usually last 3–4 months and can be achieved using any FDA-approved neuromodulator.
No, she didn’t stay lopsided for long.
“Now, I better go inject the other side to even things out!” she joked.
The internet responded fast.
“This is so educational and you are AMAZING!” one user said.
Another added: “A doctor doing a test on herself? Earned major respect. Thank you, Doc!”
A third noted: “Un-injected side looked better! Surprised when she said the other side. Thanks for the demo!”
And one summed it up: “Amazing demonstration. Shocked by how much difference it makes.”
