When severe leg pain struck during a modeling event on April 26, she was rushed to Pedreira General Hospital. Still, tests came back clean, leaving her condition undiagnosed and worsening.
The Brandão family planned to attend mass on April 28 but canceled when Millena’s condition worsened—she had severe headaches, no appetite, and extreme fatigue. At home, she collapsed in the bathroom. Her parents rushed her to Maria Antonieta Urgent Care Station. Thays, her mother, recalled her arriving unconscious in her father’s arms but briefly regaining consciousness. Doctors ruled out COVID-19, H1N1, and dengue. They diagnosed a urinary tract infection and prescribed medication, still unaware of the severity of her real condition.
On April 29, Millena Brandão was rushed to Granjaú General Hospital, where she suffered her first cardiac arrest and was intubated. Her mother, Thays, recalled that Brandão never regained consciousness. The hospital lacked a neurologist and proper equipment, only managing a CT scan that revealed a 5-centimeter mass in her head—possibly a cyst, clot, or tumor—but no surgery was performed. Tragically, Millena experienced 13 cardiac arrests in total, a devastating spiral for someone with no prior medical history.
On one of the most critical days, Millena Brandão suffered seven respiratory arrests. Medical teams fought to revive her using chest compressions and defibrillator shocks, but their efforts were in vain. The exact cause of her death remains undetermined.
