Jane Bright, a former Survivor star, has sadly died at age 71.
Jane Bright, known for her appearance on Survivor: Nicaragua, has died at 71.
Her daughter, Ashley Hammett, confirmed the news in a Facebook post, revealing a friend and a county sheriff found Jane’s body in her home. The cause of death hasn’t been disclosed.
Jane, a dog trainer from North Carolina, competed in Survivor’s 21st season in 2010. At 56, she was the oldest contestant and placed sixth. Her strength and humor made her a fan favorite, winning her the Sprint Fan Favorite award and $100,000.
She joined the show months after losing her husband, saying he had always encouraged her to apply.
Fans and fellow contestants flooded social media with tributes and memories of Jane Bright.
One fan wrote, “RIP. She was iconic, she had some of the most entertaining moments on that (slightly underrated) season.”
Another said, “Rest in peace Jane. One of, if not the best part about Nicaragua.”
Many remembered her as a Survivor legend with unmatched heart and grit.
Jane’s impact went beyond gameplay — she was honest, tough, and real.
In a Today interview after her exit, she quipped,
“There were several times I tried to build alliances with Fabio and Benry —
but I’m telling you, men are weird. They don’t want to make alliances with women; they want to stick with men.”
One of Jane Bright’s most memorable moments was extinguishing the campfire before leaving the game.
She explained, “Oh yeah, because my weather prediction that morning — I was real good at forecasting while out there since I farm — I knew it would probably pour by evening.”
Our thoughts go out to Jane’s loved ones during this difficult time.
