Renowned JFK director and conspiracy advocate Oliver Stone has claimed that NBC is concealing an unpublished video that allegedly proves Lee Harvey Oswald couldn’t have been responsible for President John F. Kennedy’s assassination in 1963.
The Oscar-winning filmmaker is now urging a congressional committee to compel the network to release the footage.
Stone was part of a panel of Kennedy assassination experts who testified on Tuesday before the Task Force on the Declassification of Federal Secrets. This task force was established following President Trump’s release of a large cache of previously classified documents related to the assassination and the ongoing conspiracy theories surrounding it.
During the Q&A session, the 78-year-old Stone made a stunning claim, alleging that NBC is hiding a secret video showing Oswald in Dallas, apparently watching Kennedy’s motorcade as the shooting took place. He testified: “I saw a film that potentially shows Oswald watching the motorcade, which means he was downstairs at the time of the shooting. That would be very interesting to see.”
Oswald has long been considered the assassin of President Kennedy, but after his own shocking death just two days later at the hands of nightclub owner Jack Ruby, widespread conspiracy theories emerged, suggesting that someone didn’t want the 24-year-old to talk to investigators.
On Tuesday, Stone acknowledged that while he couldn’t definitively confirm the man in the video was Oswald, he believed it was “a man who looks like him.”
One year after the assassination, the Warren Commission concluded that Oswald acted alone. However, Stone argued that a fresh investigation is now necessary.
NBC has previously denied attempts to release the alleged video, prompting Stone to call on the task force to subpoena the network for the original footage. He added: “The American public should have a right to judge for itself who was standing there.”
Stone’s claims received backing from task force chairwoman Anna Paulina Luna (R-Fla.), who echoed his assertions during an appearance on Fox News with host Jesse Watters last week.
When asked if she believed all documents related to Kennedy’s death had been released, Luna replied, “We’re in the process of tracking down two specific documents. I would like to tell the American people, NBC has a video that has never been seen before.”
She added, “It allegedly shows Oswald near the vehicle when the assassination took place, which means he couldn’t have been the shooter. We are tracking down all this information.”
Luna stated that after her initial meeting with Stone, she became convinced that the secret tape could significantly impact the JFK investigation.
She explained: “(Stone) mentioned that NBC has been very protective of this tape. I believe that tape belongs to the American people.”
Luna continued, “I would encourage everyone to ask NBC to release that tape. It’s crucial that the American people know the truth about what happened to John F. Kennedy.”
