A US military precision airstrike terminated the life of Abu Khadijah, a high ranking member of ISIS in Iraq and Syria, as announced by President Trump.
A US-led precision airstrike in Al Anbar province, Iraq, killed Abu Khadijah, also known as Abdallah Makki Muslih al-Rifai. Iraqi Prime Minister al-Sudani considered him a major threat. CENTCOM reported that Rifai was ISIS’s global operations chief and a leader within their top decision-making body, responsible for critical logistical and financial functions.
General Michael Erik Kurilla, CENTCOM commander, emphasized Abu Khadijah’s significance, calling him ‘one of the most important IS members’ globally. He reiterated the US commitment to eliminating terrorist threats, stating, ‘We will continue to kill terrorists and dismantle their organizations.’ This airstrike occurred amidst growing concerns about an ISIS resurgence in Iraq and Syria, despite previous declarations of the group’s defeat. ISIS remnants continue to conduct attacks against Iraqi security forces.
